JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Type: Educational
Client: Spokane Public Schools
Location: Spokane, Washington
The 59,800 SF replacement Jefferson Elementary was designed with the character of a traditional school building fitting into the fabric of an established neighborhood with homes dating from the 1920s -1960s. Classrooms surround a courtyard on the axis with the centrally located library and gymnasium. This configuration highlights the importance of the relationship between academic and physical education and the influence that both have on children. The connection between Jefferson and the nearby Lewis & Clark High School athletic fields is also symbolic of the unique relationship Jefferson Elementary families have over the span of a student’s life from kindergarten through high school.
